Chittorgarh Fort
This is the largest fort in India and is the grandest fort
in the state of Rajasthan. This fort is plainly known as Chittor which was the
capital of Mewar during their rule. This fort is situated several kilometres by
south road of Bhilwara. It is situated majestically over a hill which is 180
metres in height and is spread over an area of 280 hectares above the plains of
the river Breach. The fort has an evocative history and is studded with the
historical palaces, gates laid with ancient architecture, temples and even two
prominent commemoration towers. These monuments have inspired tourist to visit
and even too writers for many centuries.
Jaisalmer Fort
Being situated in the city of Jaisalmer in the state of
Rajasthan, the Jaisalmer fort is one of the grandest forts in the world. This
fort was constructed in 1156 AD by the Bharati Rajput ruler Rawal Jaisal, from
where this fort got its name. This fort stands proudly over the vast golden
stretches of the Thar Desert on trikuta hill and has played an important role
in many battles. The walls that are of yellow sandstone walls are like the
tawny colour of the animal lion during the day, and turns out to be faded
honey-gold as the sun-sets, and therefore camouflaging the fort in the yellow
desert. Thus for this very reason this fort is especially entitles as the
“Golden Fort”.
Taragarh Fort
Taragarh fort popularly known as the star fort is one of the
most impressive structures of the city Bundi, in the state of Rajasthan. This
fort is located approximately 39km from the city of Kota. Constructed upon a
hillside this fort was built in AD 1354. To the fort there are three gateways
namely Lakshmi pol, Phuta Darwaza, Gagudi ki Phatak and many parts of these
gateways are in ruins now. This fort is well known for its tunnels
crisscrossing the entire hillside during the day time. However these tunnels
are not accessible for want in proper world maps.
Amer Fort
This fort also pronounced as Amber Fort is situated in Amer,
which is a very small town and is 11 kms. From Jaipur which is the capital of
Rajasthan. The major tourist attractions in the Jaipur area are mostly high
hill areas. Amer fort is well known for its artistic style, which blends both
the elements of Hindus as well as Mughals. Due to its large ramparts, the
series of gates and the cobbled pathways overlooks the Maota Lake at its
forefront. The aesthetic ambience of this fort can be seen within the four
level well planned layouts with red stones and marbles. This consists of the
diwan-e-aam or the hall for public audience, diwan-e-khas or the hall of
private audience.
Mehrangarh Fort
This fort is situated approximately 400 feet above the city
area and is very well enclosed by imposed thick walls. Inside these thick walls
are the several palaces which are well known for their intricate carvings and
expansive courtyards. The road that winds leads to and fro to the city area
below. The many imprints of the cannonball that were hit by the attacking
armies can be very clearly seen on the second Gate of the fort. On the left of
this fort is the fort of Chhatri of Kirat Singh Soda, who died on the spot
defending the Mehrangarh fort, the remains or this soldier, can still be seen.
There are several gates to make an entry the fort which even include Jayapol
which was built by Maharaja Man Singh to his commemorate his victory over
Jaipur and Bikaner armies.
Ranthambore Fort
This is a formidable fort and has been always a focal point
which witnessed a large number of historical developments in the state of
Rajasthan. It is situated near Sawai Madhopur town. It lies within the famous
Ranthambore National Park which was formerly the hunting grounds for the
Maharaja’s of Jaipur before India got its independence.
Hill Fort Kesroli
This hill fort is located in Alwar and was built about six
centuries ago by the Yaduvanshi Rajputs, who are said to be known as the
descendants of lord Krishna. At that time this fort was named as Khanzadas
after being converted into Islam is the middle of the 14th century. As the time
passed by many centuries this fort has changed hands many times. Initially this
fort was conquered by the Mughals and then by the Jats and finally it came into
the hands of the Rajputs in 1775. This fort is now finally given on lease to
the heritage company Neemrana Hotels which plan to develop it in much better
way. This fort is located at a good place were zoologist and ornithologist
amateur who want to discover the wild life can visit here.
