HOW TO REACH
Swarghat is approachable through the nearest airport, the
Chandigarh airport which is just 186 kms away from the location and by train
the distance is just 40 kms away from the station. It is also very accessible
via roads to get connected through the other cities too.
PLACES TO SEE IN SWARGHAT
Naina Devi Temple:
It is the most attractive location for thousands of Hindu
devotees. The Naina Devi temple is located 1177 m and 29 kms away from Swarghat
and 69 kms from Bilaspur and is famous for its annual fair. The temple is
located on the top of a triangular hillock that brings the unparalleled view of
the holy Anandpur Sahib Birth place of Khalsa on one side and Gobind Sagar on
the other side. The annual fair is held during the month of August where
thousands of pilgrims throng at the Nanda Devi shrine.
Vyas Gufa
It is to be believed that the well known sage Maharishi
Vyaas used to roam this place from Thaneswar to Rohtang wherein the River Vyas
emerges and the famous pond called the Vyas Kund is available. The Vyas Gufa
(cave) is located on the base of New Township where the saint, Maharishi Vyaas
meditated.
Bilaspur
Yet another remarkable location for the tourists that
resides 673 m and at 40 kms away from Swarghat, Bilaspur is the famous location
on the south east side of the Sutlej river in a spacious valley was once the
renowned seat of the ruler of the erstwhile state now sunken in Govind Sager
Lake. The old Bilaspur town was founded by Rishi Ved Vyas. This place is famous
for Gobind Sagar Lake that brings a variety of water sports activities
including boating, water skiing, surfing, rowing etc.
Markanda
Markanda is a famous shrine which is about 20 kms from
Bilaspur in Tehsil Sardar and was named after the renowned Rishi Markandeya. It
is to be believed in a legend that a tunnel was connected to the Vyas Gufa and
Markanda shrine where the two famous saints Markandya and Vyas used to see each
other through this sub-terrain tunnel.
Forts
The Bilaspur district is filled with many famous forts of
ancient times that are worth visiting. Some of them are Bachhretu fort (1980m)
64 kms from Bilaspur, Baseh fort, Kot-Kahlur fort , and Rattanpur fort.
