How to Reach Gangotri Yamunotri

Gangotri Yamunotri Yatra is often known by the name of do Dham Yatra. In order to travel to Gangotri Yamunotri you need to first travel by car/bus or rail to Haridwar/Rishikesh first. If you are availing the air route, then you need to first fly to the Jolly Grant Airport of Dehradun and then complete the rest of the journey by road. From Haridwar/Rishikesh/Dehradun, you need to first travel by road to Barkot and then to Hanuman Chatti. From Hanuman Chatti you need to trek to reach Yamunotri Dham. After Darshan you need to return to Barkot from where you’ll have to drive towards Uttarkashi first. From Uttarkashi you have to drive to Gangotri Dham via Harsil. After Darshan you have to return to Uttarkashi and then drive back to Rishikesh/Haridwar. That completes your do Dham Gangotri Yamunotri Yatra successfully.
Best Time to Visit Yamunotri-Gangotri

The ideal time to visit Yamunotri-Gangotri is between the months April and June. The summer season is experienced by Uttarakhand during that time and the weather remains most travel-friendly, cool and pleasant during that time. The months June, July and August need to be avoided strictly as monsoons arrive in Uttarakhand during that time and the paths become slippery and landslides prone. Winters set in around November and continue till March. Winters are too chilly to travel and the region becomes clad in sheets of ice. Pre-winters; i.e. around months September to mid November is however travel-friendly and thus can be chosen for the Yamunotri-Gangotri Yatra.

- See a doctor and get yourself thoroughly checked up prior to the travel.
- Don’t loiter here and there unnecessarily in the course of the travel as you may lose track of your group.
- Don’t leave your luggage isolated or with strangers.
- You need to heighten your physical fitness and endurance prior to this difficult journey. So, eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly.
- Make sure that your luggage is not too heavy as moving with a heavy load on a mountainous terrain may prove to be pretty difficult.
- Carry all your prescription drugs with you and in ample quantity.
- Always eat well cooked or boiled food while on the travel and stay away from spicy, oily food.
- Use cades or trekking shoes while traveling. Your shoes should come with a proper grip to avoid falls.
- Don’t wear large sized, flowing clothes while you are on the journey.
