Importance of Muktinath Dham Temple
The creation of earth began around 2 billion years ago. Around 100 million years ago when the ksheer sagar rose up from the ground that had resulted in the formation of Himalayas. Later on, after that for 300 years the reptile age had taken over and finally after its dissipation the civilization had started in the world through the Aryavarta of Jambudweep.
The earth is divided into 7 large islands, in it the
very first human civilization developed in the Jambudweep region post the
reptile era. A description of Jambudweep has been mentioned in 4 regions, Char
Dham, Saptapuri etc. a major part in that region lies in the liberation zone Himwat
Khand Himalaya Nepal. Similarly, the Varah region in the east of Nepal falls in
the confluence of Gandaki Narayani and Ganga that flows through Nepal, Harihar
region including the world famous Kurukshetra in India.
1 of the 3 Tridevas is said to have performed yajna
here in the middle of the Salagrama Mountain and Damodar Kund which is located
in the most important Gangaki River, Kali Gandaki and is protected by sage Shandilya.
Due to the effect of this yajna, Rudra (a form of lord shiva) in the form of
fire flames and Lord Narayana Vishnu in the form of cold water were born. This
is how the all sin destroyer Mukti Kshetra was born and the Shalagram was
created as well in the form of a rock for liberation from the curses that lord
Vishnu had received due to the curse of sati vrinda therefore the place was
named Muktikshetra.
Archana worship of Lord Bhagwan Muktinath and Muktishetra
has been going on continuously ever since the Vedic period and mythological
period. In all the puranas as well as the Upanishads and even Brahmasutra,
Skanda, Varah, Padma, Brahmanda and the descriptions of Muktishetra and Shalagram
Archana method is found in great detail.
The incarnation of Sri Bhagwan Muktinath Narayan was
converted into the Adi Shalagram form due to the curse of Sati Vrinda and lord
Vishnu had attained salvation by taking a rock form inside the Gandaki River. Vishwakarma,
in the form of lord Narayan, commanded the other Shalagram, revealing the Shalagram
Mountains by taking various forms and Shalagram Shilas for thousands of years.
In the bygone era, after installing the Adi
Shalagram in the sanctum sanctorum that the idol of lord Narayana looks
somewhat like Muktinath Narayan and Buddha Lord Lokeshwar as well. Hence this
is the reason why it remains the centre of faith and religious tolerance among
those who believe in Hinduism and Buddhism.
Similarly, according to the narration mentioned in
various puranas, there is a unique relationship between Lord Shri Badrinath and
Muktinath as lord Lord Shalagram is also worshipped as the main presiding deity
in Badrinath.
The confluence of the Damodar Kund of Muktinath Dham
and the Gandaki River is called Kakweni. Offering prayer at this place is
believed to provide salvation to the coming 21 generations.
The ashram of maharishi Valmiki, the author of Ramayana,
was also located on the banks of the river Gandaki. It was here that goddess Sita
had given birth to the twins Luv and Kush. Swami Narayan, a child who was born
in Ayodhya 300 years back had also attained his siddhi by performing severe
penance on a rock between Mukti Kshetra and Kakweni.
According to Srimad Bhagwat Mahapuran etc. texts,
after 5,000 years of Kali Yuga, the rivers like Ganges will become impure and
on water will remain. On the Gandaki river will remain sacred for 10,000 years
of Kali Yuga. Finally, Muktishetra is the centre of the great archaic religious
faith of Hindus and Buddhism and Muktishetra and lord Muktinath lie on the
earth for the welfare of the entire world.
