Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Varanasi

Kashi Vishwanath Temple is famous temple of Lord Shiva situated in Varanasi of Uttar Pradesh of India. It is the holiest place for Hindu, every Hindu is likely to come here once in a lifetime. The Kashi Vishwanath temple is located on the shore of holy river Ganges. Every Hindu likes that his body remains should be poured into river Ganges. It is one of the holiest temple of Lord Shiva and among the twelve Jyotirlingas.

Maratha and Ahilyabai Holkar have built this structure of temple in 1780. But later Indian Government took the command of this temple. Varanasi has cultural importance because it is one of the oldest city of India. Jyotirlinga of Shiva has very importance in the culture of India, and It is believe that visiting of Kashi Jyotirlinga means you have visited other Jyotirlingas.

The Kashi temple has many place of worship that are located in ‘Vishwanath Gali’. The main Linga in the temple is 5 feet tall and 7 and half feet in diameter. The temple is surrounded by other small temples of Vishnu, Vinayaka, KalBhairav, Saneeswara. There is a well name Gyaan Vapi, it is believed that Jyotirlinga was kept safe in this well during attack. There is sabha garbha or inner Garbha inside temple. The Linga is made up of black stone and is placed on silver platform. The temple is about 50 feet high with golden dome.

Everyday 3000 visitors come to visit Kashi Vishwanath temple. On the main occasion of festivals, number of visitors increases to 10000 per day. It is believed that visiting the temple and taking a bathe in the holy Ganges (Ganga Snan) leads to Moksha.

The New Kashi Vishwanath Temple is a Lord Shiva temple and it is the precise replica of Kashi Vishwanath temple. It is founded by Raja Birla and built by Birla Group of Industries. It is also called Birla Temple. It is located in Varanasi. This temple was first designed by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya. He wants to build a Temple in the campus of Banaras Hindu University. The New Kashi Vishwanath Temple is made up of marble and it is accomplished in 1965. Temples of Shiva, Parvati, Ganesha, Hanuman, Mahadev, Nandi, Saraswati and Nataraja are found in the campus of University. It is opened for every religious people. It is a famous temple of Varanasi and every year thousands of visitors come to visit. The temple has tallest tower of India. The temple is specially decorated on festivals of Navratri, Shivratri, and Janmashtami. It is 7 km far from Varanasi railway station, you can hire taxi or auto rickshaw from there.

Varanasi is well connected by air. Varanasi is easily accessible from all parts of the country. Lal Bahadur Shastri international airport is 22 km away from Varanasi, where you can get daily flights to Delhi.
